In and around Pachmarhi

MAHADEV :   This  cave is actually a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.  It is quite damp and has water running down the walls of the cave.  The guides say that the rocks here are sedimentary in nature.  The drive upto this place is scenic.  The woods here  are more dense.  There is tranquility here, in the surroundings.  And  whole lot of monkeys too.

After a while, the sleeping monkey woke up, walked for a while, picked up a discarded plastic water bottle, stood up on two feet and put it to his mouth.  It was an amusing sight.  We had captured this extremely funny scene on video  but somehow it got deleted.  Most disappointed. But there is another one of a little monkey amusing itself and the others too.

PANDAV GUFA : It is said that the Pandavas were here for a while at some point in time. There are about 5 caves here. Square, well cut rooms. The only good part about visiting this place is the rose garden at the foot of the rock into which these caves are cut in. I did not climb uphill . The pack did. They came back with some good pictures. One was of ME. They ZOOMed in on me frm the top. Camera achha hai. :-) I liked the picture of the church steeple too.

From the 25th December to the 30th December, each year, the town hosts the Pachmarhi Utsav.    Food, Handicrafts, Music and Dance performances.......Saw the Purulia chhau being performed by dances wearing masks.   Would have enjoyed it better, if they could have briefed the audience about the sequence being enacted.  At first there was one dancer and then came in another.  After a while it got too monotonous and we got up to leave.    At that moment the peacock made its entry.   From there on it was fun.  One of the characters mounted the peacock and the perfomance became lively
