LEH in late APRIL 2013... Day 1

Leh. day one 9.00 am

It's that time of the year again and the parivaar is on vacation. This time without the puttar as he is having his exams. And am I missing him !

Arrived in Delhi yesterday afternoon. We have to have an eventful start, and yesterday it happened that we had assumed  our flt was at 13 55. It  actually was at 1335. Arrived at the airport at 1300 hrs and were informed that the counter had closed.   well ,  eventually we did manage to get that one!!

Arrived in Delhi to a blazing 41 degree hot afternoon. This time we were staying near to the airport , way outside the city . The husband had plans to catch up with acquaintances.

Later in the evening, our tour operator who is now a friend , took us out for dinner at his cafe in gurgaon, Cafe Roots.

The cafe is in the grounds of the Raviv Gandhi Energy Renewal Project .   A very warm ambiance, informal... set in a corner of a 20 acre garden with trees.... we dined under the stars.  Bel ka sharbat, aam ka panha, pizza made from scratch at the cafe, brownies baked in house, biryani and thai platters.. absolutely fresh, absolutely  yum food!

Back to the hotel by 10 and into bed by 11.00

The flight to LEH , yeah LEH it is this year, was at 5.40 am.

had an awesome view of the Himalayas from the aircraft, though it was quite cloudy. Missed the son  a lot. He would have enjoyed this and would have  clicked a whole lot of pics..of the snow covered peaks.. of the bare naked mountains as we neared the landing strip amidst the mountains..of other carriers landing.. The daughter doesn't take well to early mornings... to being pushed around. and yet, I  could have easily whacked her for being so very unenthusiastic.

Landed in leh at 7.00 to find it bright and sunny. the temperature?    4 degrees. Brrrrrrrr!

We are put up at the Royal Ladakh and are welcomed with  hot cups tea and biscuits. The hotel, I realise, is surrounded by a few snow clad peaks. Am enjoying the view from my window.

the husband is snoozing, wrapped in woolens and blankets. So is the daughter, curled up in her bed,  watching Fox Crime , munching on muffins and doughnuts.

Me is tapping away at the keyboard , intermittently rubbing a very cold nose tip and  hands as the fingers go cold.

we have been instructed to take it easy today. simply lie in bed, watch TV, and drink lots of water.

majja ni life!!
